ASK HSBV

Q. When is it safe to spay or neuter my pet?

A. At the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, we spay and neuter our puppies and kittens at eight weeks of age. Nationally, this has been common practice in animal shelters for the last twenty years. Pediatric spay/neuter is overwhelming endorsed by veterinary colleges, national animal welfare organizations, veterinary medical associations and breed associations.

The Humane Society of Boulder Valley veterinary clinic recommends that your puppy or kitten has completed its series of vaccinations prior to spay and neuter surgery. The surgery is faster and puppies and kittens recover quickly with fewer post-operative complications than if you wait until your pet is sexually mature.

For questions regarding spay and neuter surgery, call the Veterinary Clinic at 303-442-4030, ext. 680.
